I had to take a photo of this with my webcam, which is... basically the reason I don't do much traditional art any more despite preferring it absolutely :/ Part of today's messingaround sketches, which have all been done in biro over the past few days because I've been too lazy to find a pencil. Drawing glass bottles with a pen is surprisingly fun...
I spent ages trying to figure out how fighting with a double-bladed lightsaber/saberstaff would work, for Anark reference purposes, and drawing lots of poses from Phantom Menace stills and bo instructional videos. I'm really enjoying trying to give her her own fighting style, even if proper references are ridiculously hard to come by (I wanted her to be less fluid/technically good of a fighter than Darth Maul, more straightforwardly aggressive like Savage Opress, but still maintain believability that she's actually been trained in fighting. Some of the animated stuff looks... off in that regard, especially with obvious things like how Savage holds his lightsaber. The search continues.) I've also taken the opportunity, while I'm doing all these poses, to try and pay special attention to centres of gravity, and have learned some handy things about the pelvis XD
I've also been drawing more scenes with two or more characters in (although they're all so tiny I don't even have room to draw faces), which is helping me get relative proportions down a little better and to start drawing simple backgrounds. The more I draw inanimate objects, the more I'm starting to enjoy doing it... perfect ^^
Overall, I think what I've been doing is a step in the right direction! I probably need to go back to basics and study the absolute fundamentals, but I'm putting it off for as long as possible because it's Not Fun. Doing this is still way better than drawing Vacant Pretty Person #574 Staring Into Space, haha.
